Wrekin Orienteers had a successful day at Wrockwardine Wood on Sunday 26th Feb. The organisation was smooth, the map clear, the courses nicely planned and it didn’t rain. We also had the overall winners on the Brown, Green and White courses and Wrekin members finished in the top 5 on every course.
Looking at the results in detail is even more positive as Wrekin had the leading times for many of the West Midlands League classes. We scored maximum points in M10 and W10 thanks to Edward and Annie Lewis.
Several club members won at Wrockwardine Wood and also at the first round of the WM League, held at Longdon in the Wyre Forest in January. In W14 Harriet Allinson scored 100 points for the second time this year as did Mike Callow on M80, Julia Allinson on W45, Sarah Bayliss on W55, Adrian Pickles on M65 and Krzystof Nowicki on M40.
Behind the headlines we also have a good number of members who have scored 80 points on the short courses or who have finished in second, third or fourth place points the long course for their class. M55 and W35s are packing well on the Blue courses. On the Green courses our M60, 65, 70 and W45, 55 plus groups are all well very competitive within and against each other.
The WM League is in need of a co-ordinator for the 2023 results so it is difficult to be more specific than I have been in this article. However it feels safe to say that we have made a good start to the 2023 West Midlands League. There is definitely going to be good competition for our own Wrekin club awards for the maximum individual points. As long as we can get as many of us as possible to come to the events, we will give the other West Midlands clubs a run for their money.
The next WM League event is on a nice woodland area at Bentley Woods, near Atherstone, on April 2nd this is also the West Midlands Championships for 2023.
