An ideal event for newcomers to the sport or to the club.

Come and try orienteering at Lyth Hill Local Nature Reserve, near Shrewsbury. We will be happy to help you get started, and newcomers are especially welcome.

Terrain: Lyth Hill is a country park with a mixture of grassland, woodland, with areas of thick bracken and brambles.

Courses: 
Yellow (1.7km) Suitable for beginners, you will have to make some decisions as to which way to turn, the course is a loop following footpaths, with the controls on the path.
Orange (2.7km)  Suitable for those who have tried a yellow or white course before.  You may need to make more than one decision between each control as to which way to turn. Some of the controls are not immediately on a footpath.
Light Green (3.7km) Suitable for those who have tried orange or yellow before and want more of a challenge.  There are choices of which way to go between controls.  Some of the controls are not on footpaths.

Entries:  On the day only BOF members: Seniors £6.00, Juniors £2.00. Non-BOF members: Seniors £7.00, Juniors £2.50.

Registration: By the start.  

Starts from 10am -11.30am 

Courses Close 12.30pm

Facilities: There are no toilets or other facilities.

Punching: Sportident electronic punching will be used. Dibbers available to hire £1. Lost dibbers will be charged at £40.

Safety: Competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety. Please remember to download after your run, or you will be deemed as missing and a search will take place for you. Full leg cover is required for orange and light green courses.

Dogs: Dogs are permitted in the country park.

Medical information

If you wish any medical information to be available to a practitioner in the event of an emergency, please fill in the British Orienteering medical information form, place it in a sealed envelope with your name on it, and deposit it at Enquiries. It will not be opened unless we have reason to believe you may have suffered a medical emergency and will be shredded after the event if you don’t collect it.
