Orienteering is by nature usually an individual sport, but still clubs compete against each other in league and knockout competitions.

As a member of Wrekin Orienteers you can run for us in these competions:

West Midlands League

This runs throughout a calendar year and usually comprises between six and ten events, organised by the various clubs within the region. Each event has eight colour-coded courses so there is something for everyone. To score points for the club, you need to run either the long or short course designated for your age group.

The West Midlands Orienteering Association web site has more information about how it works, fixtures, and current standings.

Laurie Bradley Score event

This event is again competed for by the West Midlands clubs, and takes place annually on New Year’s Day. It commemorates one of the early pioneers of orienteering in the West Midlands. With a mass start and a one-hour time limit, it’s always a highly social occasion. More information (via West Midlands Orienteering Association).

We are due to organise this event on New Year’s Day 2023. Look for details on our events page in due course

Compass Sport Trophy

A prestigious national competition with regional heats, normally in early spring and a final in the autumn. As with the West Midlands League there are courses for each age group (but no short option for this one!). More information (via PGOrienteering)

West Midlands Relays

What it says in the tin! Another competition between the West Midlands clubs, this time for relay teams of three. More information (via West Midlands Orienteering Association).

Yvette Baker Trophy

A national inter-club competition specifically for juniors, named after Britain’s first ever World Champion orienteer. Similarly to the Compass Sport Trophy, there are regional heats and a national final. More information (via British Orienteering).
