An urban event in the historic town of Shrewsbury. This event will be at Regional level and form part of the West Midlands Urban League.
Shrewsbury is one of England’s finest medieval market towns and has 660 listed buildings. It was the birthplace of Charles Darwin.
Venue: Quarry Park, Shrewsbury
Terrain: Shrewsbury is a medieval town which retains many ancient buildings and has a number of small alleyways connecting its streets. Note that some streets and alleyways are cobbled and may be slippery if wet (as well as being uneven underfoot).
Entries: via Fabian4, closing at midnight (end of) Sunday 18 August. There will be limited map availability for entry on the day.
Fees: Seniors £8, Juniors £3
Assembly: in the Quarry Swimming and Fitness centre, Priory Road, Shrewsbury. Please do not attempt to park here: see below for parking options
Car Parking: There is only a tiny car park at the swimming pool: please do not park here. Within the river loop there are several public car parks just a few minutes’ walk from the event centre, the nearest being:
- St Austin’s Street (£1.00/hour)
- Bridge Street (£1.00/hour)
- St Julian’s Friars (£0.60/hour)
Free on- or off-road car parking can be found outside the river loop – if approaching from the east or south, Abbey Foregate car park is easily reached and about 15 minutes’ walk from the Quarry; from the west, the Frankwell car park is convenient and about a 10 minute walk. On-street, Woodfield Road for instance has no restrictions on a Sunday – from here head down Pengwern Road and cross the river via Port Hill bridge.
Starts: from 10:30 to 12:00. Courses close at 2pm. If there is a large entry starts will be extended until 12:30 (at present we are not expecting to need to do this; please don’t rely on it in your travel plans!).
Courses: Juniors under 16 can only run courses 6 or 7 unless accompanied by an adult. You can choose to run any course; the below are guidelines – note that you must run the course for your age group if you wish to be competitive in the West Midlands Urban League.

Punching: Sportident electronic punching will be used. Controls will be SIAC enabled but you will need to punch both the start and the finish controls. Dibbers (non-SIAC) available to hire at £1 for Seniors, free for Juniors. Lost dibbers will be charged at £40.
Safety: competitors take part at their own risk and are responsible for their own safety. Please take care crossing roads, and take corners wide to avoid collisions, especially when entering and leaving the alleyways. Please remember to download after your run, or you will be deemed as missing and a search will take place for you. Shorts are permitted.
Dogs: are welcome, but no dogs on courses except assistance dogs. Please pick up after your dog.
