You will need the MapRun app on your phone, and optionally the MapRunG app on your Garmin watch or MapRunA on your Apple Watch. Please download it from an app store beforehand. It is made by FNE Enterprises.
The latest version of Maprun is version 7 and links to the Apple and Android app stores are provided on the MapRun web site, as are links to the Garmin and Apple Watch apps.
Once the app is running it will buzz or make a sound depending on the settings (we can advise) when you visit each control location. You should be able to leave your phone in your pocket and navigate using the paper map provided.
A4 map Scale 1:10,000. (Note the map is not using IOF standards)
Score course: Visit as many of the 50 controls as you can in the time. Each control is worth 20 points. There is a 10 point penalty for each minute or part minute you are late back.
Safety: Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult – there are many road crossings.
Please be mindful of others and take care when turning blind corners – e.g. in or out of alleyways, street junctions etc. – run wide and slow!
A first aid kit will be available at registration at Stop Cafe.
Parking either in Julian Friar’s car park (pay and display) or on street in Belle Vue (free). The public car park in Abbey Foregate, a few minutes’ walk away, is free on Sundays.
Medical information
If you wish any medical information to be available to a practitioner in the event of an emergency, please fill in the British Orienteering medical information form, place it in a sealed envelope with your name on it, and deposit it at Enquiries. It will not be opened unless we have reason to believe you may have suffered a medical emergency and will be shredded after the event if you don’t collect it.
Insurance
Please note: Participants who are not members of British Orienteering are not covered by British Orienteering’s public liability insurance. By entering this event, you acknowledge that you are taking part at your own risk. For example, if you were to accidentally injure a member of the public or damage property during the event, you would not be covered.
Check the MapRun web site to see how you got on!
