Wrekin Orienteers 50th Anniversary Event, Concord College, Friday 8 August

A fun social and commemorative event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the club’s foundation. All welcome!

To celebrate our 50th anniversary, we are holding a fun score event at Concord College. There will be 50 controls, and you will be entered into a team of three (no need to sort this out yourself!) who will each need to visit up to 20 of them.

Venue: Concord College, Acton Burnell, near Shrewsbury.

What3Words: mobile.basic.venturing

Directions: Please note that there is only access through the main entrance (see map below) not from the village of Acton Burnell, do not put the college postcode into your sat nav, it will take you to the wrong entrance.

Please use the map also to make your way to the car park, and then to registration.

Note also the seating/food area, there is grass, there are some benches, you may want to bring a rug or your own chairs.

Entry: free!

Format:  A relay score, teams of 3.

Each map has 20 controls.

When you are ready to run, come to the registration desk with your dibber (or ask to borrow one).

We will allocate you to a team (no need, in fact don’t decide in advance who is in your team).  Do not worry if you are fast or slow, our super-sophisticated high-tech random allocating machine will ensure that the teams are somewhat balanced.

Team Member A starts, does score A, returns to the finish at which point Team member B can start, and so on.

If once your team has finished you wish to compete again on a different set of controls, come and let us know and we will allocate you to a new team.

There are no special retro elements, but anyone with retro kit is welcome to bring out of its (probably wise) retirement.  There is a possibility that the building works change over the next two weeks, so there may be map updates to add before you run.

Terrain: Concord College is a school with a variety of building and manicured grounds, sports pitches and so on.  In the North East of the site there is a large area of building works which are out of bounds.  There are some areas of long grass that has thistles, possibly nettles, occasional brambles.  Leg covering optional.

Medical information

If you wish any medical information to be available to a practitioner in the event of an emergency, please fill in the British Orienteering medical information form, place it in a sealed envelope with your name on it, and deposit it at Enquiries. It will not be opened unless we have reason to believe you may have suffered a medical emergency and will be shredded after the event if you don’t collect it.

Many thanks to everyone, including several of our founding members, who came to celebrate our 50th anniversary, and enjoyed a fun evening at Concord College.

Photos (but no formal results, this was for fun) will follow shortly…
