Choose between 45 and 90 minutes score (and visit as many virtual controls as you can) or enter a 1-2km linear course (with no road crossings); Start times from 6pm to 7pm.

This is the first of our five Wrekin Orienteers Summer Series events, on the first Tuesday of the month from May to September.

Entry fees

45 or 90 minute Score Course (choose length on the day) £5; can be done as an individual, pair or group. Each individual needs to put their own entry in please. Under 18s go free but must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Linear 1-2km course (with no road crossings); adults £5, under 18s £2.Can be done as an individual, pair or group. Each individual needs to put their own entry in please. Under 18s go free with an accompanying paying adult or can go on their own at their parents’ discretion.

You will need the MapRun app on your phone, and optionally the MapRunG app on your Garmin watch or MapRunA on your Apple Watch.  Please download it from an app store beforehand.  It is made by FNE Enterprises. 

The latest version of Maprun is version 7 and links to the Apple and Android app stores are provided on the MapRun web site, as are links to the Garmin and Apple Watch apps.

Once the app is running it will buzz or make a sound depending on the settings (we can advise) when you visit each control location.  You should be able to leave your phone in your pocket and navigate using the paper map provided.

A4 map  Scale 1:10,000.  (Note the map is not using IOF standards) 

Score course: Visit as many of the 50 controls as you can in the time.  Each control is worth 20 points.  There is a 10 point penalty for each minute or part minute you are late back. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult – there are many road crossings.

Linear course: Visit all the controls in the correct order as fast as you can. U18s may go alone at parents’ discretion.

Please be mindful of others and take care when turning blind corners – e.g. in or out of alleyways, street junctions etc. – run wide and slow!

A first aid kit will be available at registration.

If you are unable to make the Tuesday date or want to have another go to improve your route choices, then each course will be available from its respective Tuesday until the end of September 2026.  Simply enter the anytime version of the event on SI Entries and you will be sent a link to the .pdf of the map to print and a code to unlock the event on MapRun.

Prizes:

There will be prizes at the end of the series (both on the event day and anytime count) in a variety of categories, to include, most controls visit (best 3 events to count) and most controls visited per kilometre (best 3 events to count).

Medical information

If you wish any medical information to be available to a practitioner in the event of an emergency, please fill in the British Orienteering medical information form, place it in a sealed envelope with your name on it, and deposit it at Enquiries. It will not be opened unless we have reason to believe you may have suffered a medical emergency and will be shredded after the event if you don’t collect it.

Insurance

Please note: Participants who are not members of British Orienteering are not covered by British Orienteering’s public liability insurance. By entering this event, you acknowledge that you are taking part at your own risk. For example, if you were to accidentally injure a member of the public or damage property during the event, you would not be covered.
